Does your child learn better one-on-one?
I love to work with primary and secondary school students who need help with organizing, understanding, and completing their school work. I have worked extensively with students who are coping with attention issues, Asperger's, dyslexia, and other learning challenges. I work closely with families to become part of the student's learning team and to empower the whole family in the learning process.
My approach emphasizes connecting with students and building trust in order to stimulate investment in the learning process and willingness to take ownership and responsibility. When measuring progress I look at the total picture of a student's behavior, affect, and performance--not just at grades. In my experience, the phrase "they don't care what you know until they know that you care" is especially true of pre-college students. I work to communicate the idea that there is no shame in not knowing and that the most important quality in a learner is the willingness to show up, try hard, give oneself permission to make mistakes, and then keep trying.
